More Links, Less Chatter
Let's just link the quotes, shall we?
- British and American troops were involved in fierce fighting near Iraq's main port today as the war to topple Saddam Hussein began.
- Truth, the saying goes, is war's first casualty. In the case of the looming U.S. invasion of Iraq, truth started taking hits long before the shooting started. According to a poll taken in January, an astonishing 44 percent of Americans believe that most or some of the 9/11 hijackers were Iraqi.
- The French newspaper Le Figaro broke the story Wednesday, saying Belgian police identified the bugs as American. The report did not say why officials believe the devices are American, and that report could not be confirmed immediately.
- In his appearance Sunday, on NBC’s Meet the Press, the vice president argued that we believe [Hussein] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons. But Cheney contradicted that assertion moments later, saying it was only a matter of time before he acquires nuclear weapons. Both assertions were contradicted earlier by Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, who reported that there is no indication of resumed nuclear activities.
- Asked whether they would vote for Bush or an unnamed Democrat, 45% of registered voters said Bush and 42% said the Democrat. That's within the poll's 3-percentage-point error margin and reflects a close-as-possible contest.
- In moments of candor, even some of Mr. Bush's most senior national security aides say they have no idea what they will find after they lift the top off a dictatorship.
- A man protesting the looming U.S. war on Iraq fell to his death from San Francisco's famed Golden Gate Bridge on Wednesday as he was hanging a banner, officials said. :-(
- Despite intense lobbying by pro-drilling senators and the White House in the hours leading up to the vote, Democrats mustered the support needed to remove a drilling provision from a budget resolution expected to be approved later this week.
More as is necessary...
